Visual Basic for Application (VBA) is a programming language designed for automating task in Microsoft Office. This two-day training session focuses on the VBA as it applies to Microsoft Excel – specifically with the programming aspects of worksheets, workbooks, and SQL datasets and with the programming aspects of charts, pivot tables, and data tables. The use of VBA in Microsoft Excel will improve the user experience and productivity with the application.

Audience

Excel VBA Programming demonstrates how Excel users can customize and supercharge Excel apps using the powerful capabilities of Visual Basic. To be successful in this course, you should have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

In this course participants will learn:

  • how to programmatically manipulate worksheets and workbooks.
  • how to consolidate and split-up worksheets and workbooks.
  • how to query data from an SQL database using a simple select and stored procedure.
  • how to programmatically create the major objects in Excel – specifically charts, Pivot Tables, and Data Lists.

Day 1: Worksheets, Workbooks, and SQL Data Sets

At the end of this day, students will have learned how to:

  • Create, delete, copy, and move worksheets
  • Create, open, and close workbooks
  • Consolidate and split-up data using worksheets and workbooks
  • Create a connection to an SQL database
  • Query data with basic SQL syntax
  • Query data with store procedures

Day 2: Charts, Pivot Tables, and Data Tables

At the end of this day, students will have learned how to:

  • Create charts with a chart sheet template
  • Create charts programmatically
  • Leverage simple coding tricks to improve pivot table use
  • Create and manipulate Pivot Tables programmatically
  • Create and manipulate data tables programmatically
